Program Status: Monitor/Assess

Enhancing the transfer student experience is a priority at PSU. The Transfer & Returning Student Resource Center focuses on helping transfer students transition smoothly to PSU, and is a primary university resource for developing and maintaining transfer articulation agreements and partnership programs.

Accomplished

  • Provided academic advising appointments regularly at Clackamas CC, Mt Hood CC, and Portland CC.
  • Planned and facilitated bi-annual community college advising curriculum updates meeting for all regional community college academic advisors and faculty advisors
  • Conducted outreach to 870 students who need to re-enroll with PSU in order to register for classes, hosted a re-enrollment workshop with 7 attendees, in which 6 students re-enrolled.
  • Provided outreach to 45 students who completed the Re-Enrollment form to provide proactive assistance in connecting to advising and essential PSU resources and services; of which 5 responded and 3 made advising appointments. 
  • Future Connect: Next Step PSU transfer support program in collaboration with PCC.
    • Hired a .50 FTE Future Connect Navigator position
    • Student mentors sent outreach emails to 32 PSU students and Future Connect alumni to share resources and build community. 
    • Student mentors attended 27 PSU events on topics of academic support, skill-building, community, and resource knowledge.
  • Transfer Appreciation Day at PSU engaged with PSU campus partners and community:
    • 18 events in collaboration with 17 PSU departments and resource centers
    • Interaction and engagement with over 227 students 
  • Concluded Partnership for Adult Learner Success program in partnership with Multicultural Retention Services and Self Enhancement, Inc. including a focus group to inform future work to support adult learners of color at PSU. 

In Progress

  • Working with academic units to support articulation agreements and support of transfer advising guides.
  • The TRSRC conducted initial proactive outreach to 620 students who are newly co-admitted with PSU and a local community college. The outreach aims to increase early sense of belonging at PSU, make students aware of support resources like the Transfer Center, and help students navigate the financial aid implications of co-admission.
