Early Alerts: Student Resources

What are Early Alerts?

During weeks 3-7 of each term, faculty members assess student progress and may submit Early Alerts for various reasons, such as participation, attendance, missing assignments, or low grades. These alerts are designed to support your success by identifying areas where you might need additional help.

How will I know if I receive an Early Alert?

You will receive an email notification if an Early Alert is submitted for you. You can view a sample of these emails here. Depending on the alert's reason, a member of our Progression Team may also reach out to offer support.

What should I do if I receive an Early Alert?

Follow the steps outlined in the email you received. If you're unsure, reach out to your instructor—they're here to help you succeed! The specific class related to the alert will be mentioned at the bottom of the email.

What if I need resources or help with something not listed in the email?

We understand that challenges outside the classroom can impact your performance. PSU offers various resource centers to support you with any personal circumstances you may be facing. You can explore a list of resource centers or book an appointment with the Progression Team to explore campus resources and get back on track.

Does this affect my grade or academic standing?

An Early Alert does not impact your grade or academic standing. It's simply a tool for faculty and student success offices to collaborate in supporting your academic journey. However, it's important to discuss any missed assignments or attendance issues with your instructor to understand their impact on your grade.
