Project Status: Monitor/Assess

The Summer Scholars is a three-week summer program followed by a year-long academic workshop that supports early access to campus resources, community, and academic coursework to ease the transition from high school/community college to college. 

Accomplished

AY 2023-2024

  • SSP Participants Fall to Spring Persistence: 82.7%
  • Received feedback for the SSP workshop survey
  • 100% of respondents said they felt between “moderately confident” and “extremely confident” talking to professors after 2 terms of the 1-credit workshop
  • 92% of respondents said they felt between “moderately confident” and “extremely confident” recognizing strengths and applying them to learning  after 2 terms of the 1-credit workshop
  • All scholars received year-round holistic support and outreach from the Progression Team, the Learning Center, and Victor E. Bot

AY 2024-2025

  • Hired all  Instructors and Peer Mentors for Summer 2024
  • Piloting UNST 199: Qualities in Math Confidence  - available to Summer Scholars
  • Housing is - once again -  free for Scholars who have an AY Housing contract.
  • Removed the SSP lottery previously open to all students to enable the advancement of all required students

In Progress

AY 2024-2025

  • Updating UNST 199:Academic Skills curriculum to include the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment 
  • Creating new training for instructors and peer mentors 
  • Working with New Student Programs on SSP Orientation
  • Scheduling a fall UNST 194 course designed for first-year students who are required to take the course based on GPA
