SHAC Anti Discrimination Statement

At PSU’s Center for Health and Counseling (SHAC) Center, we are committed to providing equitable and inclusive care to all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, socioeconomic status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Our goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where every person receives quality care and feels respected and heard.

SHAC will not tolerate or sanction any form of discrimination, harassment, or bias in our services, employment practices, and interactions with patients, clients, and staff. Our commitment extends to ensuring that our health care practices are accessible, fair, and free from prejudice.  This is in full compliance with PSU's Practice and Policy Standards.

SHAC is committed to being the health and wellbeing resource for all PSU students who have been directly or vicariously impacted by any form of trauma and discrimination, either due to recent events or historic experience. In the aftermath of experiencing or witnessing trauma, it is normal to experience a range of feelings and emotions, such as shock, fear, sadness, anger, helplessness or guilt. We encourage you to contact SHAC if you or someone you know would like support with coping and healing.

As a center we are committed to supporting those most impacted by oppression and injustice. This work belongs to us all, particularly those of us who benefit from white privilege and systemic oppression.

We will continue our commitment to our DEIB strategic plan pertaining to more inclusive healthcare practices through the following on-Going Initiatives:

  • Continue to support the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) advisory group. DEIB does this by fostering a culture of open-mindedness, compassion, and inclusiveness among SHAC employees by actively building a community who have diverse cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences
  • Allocation of $14,000 Annually in funding for staff training and development focused on a variety of topics related to DEIB work at least once per term
  • Improving Staff communication about our DEIB work through a quarterly newsletter
  • SHAC staff participating in search committees complete GDI’s inclusive hiring workshop
  • Support for subcommittees and working groups dedicated to student-focused DEIB efforts
  • SHAC will conduct a climate survey annually to track progress, by staff report, on DEIB initiatives

We welcome your feedback and are happy to address any questions or concerns you might have.  This information can be submitted anonymously at the link provided above, and will be reviewed by our DEIB committee.
