International Student Health Insurance

Eligibility

International students studying at PSU on a J1 or F1 visa, are automatically enrolled in the PSU Student
Health Insurance Plan when registered for 1 or more credits. There are a few exceptions where an
international student may waive out of the student insurance.

Visa, Government, and U.S. Employer

If you are at PSU on an F1 or J1 Visa, you may do an insurance waiver only if you meet one of these
situations and your insurance plan must include Medical Evacuation and Repatriation*:

Visa: You are on a J visa and have adequate health insurance that you purchase before you arrive in the US.

Government: Your government or embassy pays for your scholarship and provides you health insurance through a U.S. health insurance company.

U.S. Employer*: You have comparable insurance coverage through your, your spouse’s, or parent’s U.S. employer. Your employer insurance plan must have a deductible not higher than $2500, and cover at least 70% if you are hospitalized.

*If your employer does not have an Emergency Travel Assist/Medical Evacuation-Repatriation benefit,
you can purchase one through Academic Health Plans so you are compliant with PSU’s requirement for
international students.
