Vivien (she/her) is a psychologist at SHAC who is originally from Hong Kong and grew up in Canada. Prior to joining the SHAC team in 2021, she earned her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Western Ontario, and M.Sc and PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Victoria. She completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Manitoba Student Counselling Centre. Vivien’s graduate research focused on the experiences of adolescents and young adults raised in Asian immigrant families, parenting, and acculturation.
Vivien is particularly passionate about working with AAPI and BIPOC students, and those seeking support with navigating family and peer relationships, developmental trauma, anxiety and stress, low mood, and life transitions. She uses an integrative approach in therapy and draws primarily from client-centered and cognitive behavioral approaches while weaving in trauma-informed care, polyvagal theory, and Gottman relationship principles. She works collaboratively with students to create a safe, nonjudgmental space for students to learn more about themselves and their experiences, and to experiment with new tools and perspectives as they take steps toward their goals.
Outside of work, Vivien enjoys traveling and crafting.
