Are you an undergraduate interested in biomedical, behavioral, social, clinical, or translational research? URISE might be the program for you! Learn more below and send any questions to URISE@pdx.edu. Interested in being notified when we recruit new students?

What is URISE?

  • URISE (Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement) is a comprehensive NIH-funded research training program serving undergraduates from backgrounds historically underrepresented in careers in biomedical, behavioral, social, clinical, and translational research.
  • At this time URISE can offer a one-year program (Spring 2025 - Spring 2026), with a second year pending grant renewal. The one-year program provides: a research internship at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), faculty mentoring, research skills workshops, professional development seminars, conference travel funds, and a monthly stipend (~$1200/mo), plus 50% tuition remission.
  • The goal of URISE is to prepare undergraduates for competitive applications to post-graduate opportunities and, ultimately, successful scientific careers.

URISE Candidates

  • Ideal candidates for URISE are current students (with two more years of study at PSU) who demonstrate an eagerness to pursue scientific research and have potential to excel with our program supports and opportunities.
  • Students already considering graduate school are encouraged to apply as well as those who want to explore a possible research career through hands-on experience with a research team.
  • This opportunity is open to PSU students or transfer students who can commit to summer programming and will be PSU students by Fall 2025.

Questions about the program or application, email URISE@pdx.edu.

Applications have closed for Cohort 5.
