Summer Research Academy

CIMR is proud to host a yearly Summer Research Academy (SRA) in June for undergraduate students interested in a wide variety of research opportunities.

At SRA, students are introduced to foundational concepts in research through dynamic activities, and learn about current research projects and studies through panel discussions and presentations by current undergraduates, graduates, professors, and industry professionals. SRA is also a great place for students to learn more about the varied research opportunities at Portland State and beyond! Participating students attend a mixture of lectures-style sessions, interactive presentations, tabling fair and more! Participating students also received $250 for attending all 3-days of programming. Visit the SRA Google Site to learn more.

The goals of Summer Research Academy in 2024 were to:

  • Start developing student’s research interests and identities
  • Broaden student’s understanding of research
  • Motivate students to develop tangible next steps in their career exploration
  • Practice new skills in networking, interviewing, and interpersonal communication

Who was Invited to SRA?

Due to the limited number of spots, we prioritized admitting students who are in the following groups:

  • Community college students planning to transfer to PSU (Portland Community College, Clackamas Community College, and Clark College)
  • Current PSU Freshman and Sophomores
  • New PSU transfer students with 2-3 years left towards their undergraduate degree
  • High school students who are planning to attend PSU in Fall Term 2024

When did SRA take place?

SRA was held on June 18, 20, and 21 2024.

Past SRA Events

When SRA first started, it served the BUILD EXITO program. As the BUILD EXITO program comes to an end in 2024, the Center for Internship, Mentoring, and Research (CIMR) is adopting the event to continue hosting this annual event where undergraduate students can learn about research and research opportunities.
