Staff Spotlight: Thuy Nguyen

Originally from Vietnam, Thuy Nguyen moved to Portland a few years ago to pursue a major in economics at Portland State University. She is currently a senior graduating in December 2020, and plans to continue her studies at PSU in September 2021 to pursue a master's degree in global supply chain management. While researching universities to attend, Thuy was amazed by Portland State’s beautiful urban campus. During her first visit to PSU, she noticed how friendly people were to strangers, and felt that she would find a community in the city of Portland. 

 Thuy was first introduced to Campus Rec by a friend, and quickly fell in love with the Rec Center facility. In July of 2019, she took a position at the Member Service desk because of her experience working in customer service in Vietnam. Through Campus Rec, Thuy has improved her English skills, and has enjoyed learning how to work and communicate with many different kinds of people. 

One of Thuy's favorite things about working at Campus Rec is that she can collaborate with her manager and coworkers to solve problems. Although the adjustment of working in a new country has proven challenging at times, Thuy has found a support system through Campus Rec. The differences between customer service in Vietnam and the United States can be overwhelming, but with the help of her team, Thuy has the support she needs to feel comfortable in her position. She knows that she can go to anyone at Campus Rec and they will be there to help her.

 Thuy has been a fantastic addition to the Campus Rec community and has shown so much dedication to her position. We want to congratulate her on everything that she has accomplished so far, and on her upcoming graduation!
