Student Training Models

BUILD EXITO originated in 2015 when Portland State University received a grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to support students from diverse backgrounds interested in biomedical research careers.  Since that time, the BUILD EXITO program has expanded to include several programs that provide research training opportunities for students at various stages of their undergraduate pathways and beyond.  Current EXITO Scholars are engaged in a multiyear research training program but additional funding and programming support students who have completed the program through EXITO PLUS along with students who are interested in more in-depth hands-on research experiences on their pathway to a Ph.D. through the U-RISE program.

Students are connected to our community in a variety of ways.  The graphic below provides details on the various ways students are supported through our programming.
