Posting Internships

Portland State University is unable to post ANY internship that may discriminate based upon religion or any other protected class. Please refer to HB 2669, passed in 2013 which grants legal workplace protections to paid and unpaid interns.

Posting Paid and Unpaid** Internships

  • Create an employer account in Handshake, our online job and internship database (see below for step-by-step instructions for creating a new posting).
  • Upon review and approval of your internship, we will activate the position in Handshake.
  • Candidates will contact you directly just as they would for a permanent position.
  • Select and hire the intern that best suits your needs.

NOTE:  Posting Unpaid** Internships

Create an Employer account and a New Internship Posting:

  1. Create an employer account
  2. Click on New Job.
  3. Enter job information.
  4. Fields with an * indicate required information. Fill out as much information as possible to make the job posting complete.
  5. In the field "Posting Information" choose "Internship" for "Position Type."
  6. In the field, "Application Instructions," enter the procedure in which an applicant may apply for this position. Click on Save to update this information.
  7. Under the Posting Information section, there are two fields that you will need to review. In "Show Contact Information," if you select No, your contact information will not be available to potential employees. In "Allow Online Referrals," if you select Yes, students can submit their resume to you via this system (i.e., you will receive email notification of students' job applications and be able to view resumes on-line.

What to expect:

  1. Upon review and approval of your internship opportunity, we will post the position in Handshake, our online database.
  2. Candidates will contact you directly just as they would for a permanent position.
  3. Select and hire the intern that best suits your needs.

Posting International Internships

Currently, IE3Global is our internship abroad partner and thus, PSU only sends students on internships pre-approved by IE3 Global. Consequently, we are only able to approve positions that fit those parameters at this time. Please visit the IE3 Global website for more information.
