Are you interested in expanding the information presented to your students?  We have you covered!

We offer collaboration on:

  • a wide range of workshops to interest you and your students.
  • enriching the classroom experience and sparking discussions.
  • creating future projects around gaining and marketing experience.
  • career topics for the classroom.

The length of time per presentation varies with the information being covered (see topic descriptions below). 

We ask that you submit your request a minimum of 2 weeks in advance and encourage you to provide as much date/time availability as possible. Should you have more immediate needs, we will do our best to accommodate.

Presentation Topic Descriptions

Career Exploration - (1 hour)

 

Deciding on a career is an ongoing process of evaluation, decision-making and action which begins when you start college or before. Learn more about the process and the various steps necessary for assuring that you make the best career decision. Also, learn how Advising & Career Services can assist you at multiple places in this process. 

 

How to Prepare for Career Fairs - (30 minutes)

 

Job and internship fairs are an excellent way to meet and network with potential employers and to discover the variety of opportunities available. Learn some tips from the experts on what to do and what not to do when attending a career fair.

 

Internships Overview and Search Tips - (1.5 hours)

 

This discussion-based workshop covers topics such as the benefits of doing an internship, search tips, informational interviews, networking, how to create your internships. Q&A time is available.

 

Introduction to Interviewing (1.5 hours)

 

Learn the basics of interviewing and begin to develop interview skills in this introductory workshop. This workshop is great practice for those who are new to interviewing or haven’t experienced it in a while.

 

Networking for Introverts - (1 hour)

 

Networking can help students learn more about career options, and in the process, potentially be exposed to “hidden jobs” or internship opportunities. We will discuss informational interviewing, LinkedIn, and how to connect to professional organizations to meet people in the field.

 

Personality Type: Major & Career Choice -  2 sessions (1-2 hours per session)

 

Students will learn their personality type and potential careers that may fit who they are. Student will gain a better understanding of how personality type impacts major and career choices, strategies to communicate and work effectively with others, identify potential strengths, and identify some potential careers. Students will receive their personal profile and have an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification. There is a requirements of a $20 materials fee per student and students will need to take the Meyer-Briggs Type Indicator.

 

Preparing for Graduate School - (1 hour)

 

ACS presents a series of workshops on preparing for graduate school which cover the decision process, how to write personal statements, and test-taking strategies. Faculty members that would like their students to have more information on Graduate School can consider these presentations: Personal Statement Session, Should I go to Graduate School, Writing CV's, Test Prep Strategies. 

What Can I do with a Degree in…? (1 hour) 

Any major may find employment in a variety of areas depending on their skills and experience. Career-related internships or career-related part-time jobs may be a prerequisite to finding professional-level employment after graduation.  This workshop will help students explore their options.

 

Writing Resumes & Cover Letters (1.5 hours)

 

Get the latest information on how to effectively write and format job search documents, such as what information to include, how to create a targeted resume, and how to illustrate “fit” with a position.
