Building a 2030 Strategic Vision

The PSU in 2030 Work Group is leading the development of a strategic vision that describes how PSU will be different if we live up to the commitments we make to our priority student markets, then create milestones and metrics that show whether we are going in the right direction.

Key questions answered by this work group:

  • How will PSU’s unique strengths, if applied over time and at scale, improve student lives and our community?
  • What do we think needs to happen to achieve these aims?
  • How will we know we’ve made progress or achieved our aims?

Draft Aims

With input from the Strategic Planning Steering Committee and Academic Leadership Team, the PSU in 2030 Work Group has drafted seven aims that together constitute a strategic vision for PSU. This strategic vision describes how PSU will be different if we live up to the commitments we are making to our students, employees, and community by leveraging our unique strengths

PSU will…

  1. Be the premier minority-serving institution in the Pacific Northwest and a national leader for social mobility.
  2. Be the first and best choice for the region’s learners.
  3. Be an education destination where every student develops the skills that prepare them to engage in careers and the world.
  4. Be an inclusive workplace that supports the professional development and well-being of all employees.
  5. Be a leader in public-impact and interdisciplinary research that addresses local, regional, and global challenges.
  6. Be a driving force in Portland’s economic and social resurgence, harnessing our academic excellence, pioneering research, and strategic urban location.
  7. Achieve financial resilience and operational excellence, empowering educational success and long-term sustainability.

Building Ideas for Milestones and Metrics

For each of the seven aims, the PSU in 2030 Work Group developed ideas for key drivers of success. Drivers are conditions that must exist or actions that must be taken to accomplish the aim.

We need your help to guide the prioritization of these drivers so that we understand what PSU needs to do to ensure our strategic vision comes to life.

PSU staff, faculty, and students are invited to review aims and drivers and provide insights. You’ll be asked to review aims and ideas for drivers of success, then provide feedback by prioritizing these drivers and adding your own ideas.
