Potentially Life-Threatening or Serious Medical Issues
A medical emergency may occur for many reasons. Examples of an emergency medical situations include but are not limited to: chest pain, difficulty breathing, major injury (broken bones, bleeding, etc), unconsciousness / unresponsiveness, seizures, etc.
- Call 911 immediately for Emergency Medical Service
- You can also text to 911, contact the Campus Public Safety Office (503-725-5911), or activate one of the blue light emergency phones on campus
- Report the location, nature of injury or illness, current condition of the injured person, and any other requested information
- If possible, and you are comfortable doing so, perform first aid
- Only use CPR or an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) if you feel comfortable and have been trained to do so
- Wait with the injured person until emergency responders have arrived
- Do not move the injured person unless they are in immediate danger
- Send someone to meet emergency responders when they arrive

- Visit the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) or your external healthcare provider for additional information and / or medical advice
- Any SHAC-eligible student can access SHAC services regardless of their health insurance coverage

- Report the incident to your supervisor and / or Human Resources
- If necessary, work with Human Resources on any needed workplace accommodations
