The Department offers annual subsidies of up to $50 towards graduate student membership fees in an academic association.
Graduate students are encouraged to speak with their advisers about which association may best serve their needs. Joining an academic association is more than an illustration of professionalism. Association membership is often required to present papers at conferences. Membership may also come with other perks, like access to digital resources, copies of journals, and research grants and fellowships.

Department staff will process the registration form and purchase membership on your behalf. We may need to coordinate with you to complete the registration, as some membership applications require personal information.
Alternatively, if you have recently purchased a membership and would like to be reimbursed, please send details and a receipt to hist@pdx.edu with the subject line: “Graduate Association Membership Subsidy.” Department staff will work to file a Personal Reimbursement Request on your behalf with Campus Accounting Services. [The process may take several weeks.]
