New Student Orientation - Summer

New Student Orientation is an essential part of your undergraduate college experience, provides a foundation for success, and is required for all incoming undergraduate students. New Student Orientation will provide you with details about campus life, student services, degree requirements, and course registration access for your first term.

Non-degree, postbaccalaureate, and graduate students are not required to complete this New Student Orientation program. There may be orientation requirements specific to your program, contact your department for more information.

Sign Up for Virtual Summer Term 2024 Orientation

Summer term New Student Orientation will be virtual and take place on May 8, 2024.

Virtual Orientation Sessions are an opportunity for you to hear from PSU staff and students and get tips for a successful start at (or transition to) PSU. You’ll learn about how to meet with academic advisors and have the opportunity to attend virtual sessions that include the following topics: academic success strategies, campus resources, housing information, financial aid planning, and more.

Confirm Enrollment

All newly admitted students must confirm enrollment to guarantee your spot at PSU. In order to register for New Student Orientation, you must first confirm your enrollment.

The enrollment confirmation deadline for Summer 2024 is July 15, 2024.

Sign Up for and Attend New Student Orientation

All new students are required to attend New Student Orientation in order to register for classes.

Activate your Student (Odin) Account

In order to complete orientation you must have an active PSU Student (Odin) Account. This is the account you’ll use to log in to sign up for an Orientation session and complete your online registration.

Complete Your Math and/or Chemistry Placement Assessments (if required)

Students with specific majors need to complete the Math Placement Assessment and/or the Chemistry Placement Assessment. You should complete the Math Placement Assessment and Chemistry Placement Assessment before attending New Student Orientation. You can complete the assessments after orientation, but you may have difficulty registering for some courses.

Plan your visit to PSU

Plan your trip to the City of Roses and our downtown Urban campus! There are multiple hotel options close to campus, many of which provide discounted rates to visiting students and their families during New Student Orientation, including Portland State's very own University Place Hotel! Look for a special discount code in your Orientation confirmation email. 

Register for classes

You will be able to access course registration once you attend an orientation session. You will be able to access online registration to select your first term of courses at PSU.
