Admission Application Fee Waiver

Undergraduate applicants may be eligible for an application fee waiver ($60).

Alternative Ways to Earn College Credit

Students may be eligible for college credit through prior completion of coursework or military service.

All applicants on non-immigrant visas must provide proof of English language proficiency.

Enrollment Confirmation

Undergraduate students admitted for fall term are required to confirm enrollment at PSU. The enrollment tuition deposit is $200. Some students may be exempt from paying the deposit.

Gap Year Deferral

Students may take a gap year for a variety of reasons such as work, travel, or volunteering. PSU will consider a one-year deferral of admission for first years admitted for fall term.

Required Financial Documentation for International Students

In order to obtain an I-20 or DS-2019, all international applicants who plan to have F-1 or J-1 student visas are required to submit documentation of adequate financial support for at least the first year of study.

Residency Requirements

PSU charges students in-state or out-of-state rates based on residency status.

Second Language Admission Requirement

All applicants who graduated from an Oregon high school in 1997 or later must demonstrate proficiency in a second language.

Transfer Rules

PSU accepts college-level credit earned in academic degree programs at accredited colleges and universities.

Admissions Professional Conduct Policy

Meeting Portland State University’s minimum admissions requirements alone does not guarantee admission to the University. PSU may evaluate an applicant’s behavior and background throughout the application process to determine their ability to adhere to the University’s academic and professional conduct standards. This evaluation may take into consideration current behavior and performance as well as past experiences and actions in the context of an application for admission.
