The student union is home to resource and cultural centers — services and activities so you can engage with students and find the support you need to succeed in college. Smith is where the Portland State community belong!

Services and Centers

Associated Students of Portland State University (Smith 117): ASPSU is Portland State's student government.

Basic Needs Hub (Smith 435): New in 2022. It provides students with one place to stop for all concerns about basic needs support. Their mission: Connect PSU students to resources in the moment of need so you can focus on academics, career goals and interpersonal relationships.

Dean of Student Life, Office of (UCB 300): Now located in the University Center Building. The Office of the Dean of Student Life is a resource to resolve issues of concern or advance initiatives that can enhance the student experience. See their webpage for referral information.

Disability Resource Center (Smith 116): Pre-admission and disability counseling, educational training, advocacy and a variety of accommodations for equal access to the academic process and campus life.

La Casa Latina Student Center (Smith 228): The hub on campus where Latino/a students and their allies come together to build and connect with community and participate in services that support academic success.

Littman & White Galleries (Littman: Smith 250 / White: Smith 289): Student-run exhibition spaces providing a critical experience of visual culture through direct exposure to contemporary art for students and community members.

MENASA Student Center (Smith 238): Supports the community of Middle East, North Africa, South Asia students at PSU.

Multicultural Retention Services (Smith 425): Mission is to build and strengthen a sustainable, educationally diverse and co-curricular environment where all students have the access and support they need to achieve their educational goals.

Multicultural Student Center (Smith 235): Explores intersectional identities and seeks to develop cultural competency through student engagement, programming and meaningful dialogue.

Office of Student Affairs (Smith 433): A resource for students, faculty, and staff as they seek to enhance the student experience at PSU. Provides leadership for designated student life services and programs.

Pacific Islander, Asian & Asian American Student Center (Smith 229): An engaging and accepting space to address the diverse and changing needs of our Asian and Pacific Islander student communities.

Pan-African Commons (Smith 236): A community space that reclaims African, Black American, Caribbean, Central/South American, and Black identities across the world.

Portland State Professional Sound (Smith 114): A student-led service that provides live sound reinforcement, light services, and production assistance for events that enrich the greater PSU community.

PSU Food Pantry (Smith Basement 047): Any PSU student is welcome regardless of need. Students enrolled in at least one credit hour can access a wide variety of items from the pantry once a week.

Queer Resource Center (Smith 458): Provides students along the sexuality and gender spectrum with the support they need to persist to graduation.

Quiet Prayer & Meditation Lounge (Smith Basement 010): A place for students to pray, meditate and reflect.

Resource Center for Students with Children (Smith 462): Offers integrated services that support students' goals to be effective parents while succeeding in their academic pursuits.

Student Activities & Leadership Programs (Smith 1st Mezzanine): SALP enriches and integrates students' leadership and academic experiences. Its many programs and activities educate students to be ethical, socially just, and civically engaged leaders.

Student Community Engagement Center (Smith 1st Mezzanine): The hub for student civic engagement at Portland State University.

Student Legal Services (Smith M343, 3rd Mezzanine): Provides legal advice, legal representation, mentorship, community partnerships, and education designed to empower students.

Student Media (Smith Sub-Basement): Student Media organizations serve as the intellectual and cultural hub that connects students, faculty, and staff into a thriving public forum.

Veterans Resource Center (Smith 018, basement): Provides comprehensive support to student veterans and service members to meet their unique needs.

Women's Resource Center (Smith 439): The WRC advocates for the educational and campus experience for all members of our community.
