Overview
The Portland Option offers a Two-Year, Three-Year, and Four-Year program. All three of these program options require 36 credits of foundation curriculum, 21 credits of advanced curriculum, and 21 credits of electives.
The Two-Year program consists of three classes each term (Fall, Winter and Spring) plus a 12-hour-per-week practicum in the first year, and a 16-hour-per-week practicum in the second year. With this course of study, we encourage you to limit outside employment to part-time.
The Three-Year program requires two classes each term (Fall, Winter and Spring) in the first year of the program, followed by two years of classes and practicum (a 12-hour-per-week practicum in the second year, and a 16-hour-per-week practicum in the third year.)
The Four-Year program consists of two classes per term (Fall, Winter and Spring) in the first year of the program and two or three classes per term in the fourth year. During years two and 3, students take one class per term and complete practicum (a 12-hour-per-week practicum in the second year, and a 16-hour-per-week practicum in the third year.)
Students follow a prescribed course sequence outlined in the Course Map. After completion of the foundation curriculum, students in the MSW Portland Option have two advanced concentrations to choose from: 1) Advanced Macro Practice, or 2) Advanced Clinical Practice.
