• About SRIP

The Scholarship & Research in Progress (SRIP) series is a great opportunity for peer mentorship and support. Though SRIPs are not intended to be educational workshops, most people feel they learn a great deal by regularly attending. The group focuses on one member's project per week. The project can be at any stage (other than completely finished). The presenter(s) should give a short introduction to the current state of project and let the group know what type of feedback they are interested in at this time. They should expect a lot of interaction and input from their peers.

People are encouraged to present multiple times on the same project - it can be very useful to present at SRIP when you are first brainstorming ideas or putting together a proposal, when you are creating protocols or materials, when you experience unexpected challenges during implementation, when you are first looking at preliminary data, when you are trying to figure out how to best present and disseminate results, or when you are exploring next possible steps. The only rule is that presenters must be sincerely interested in getting input from their peers. SRIP works best when a committed group of folks attends regularly, but guests are always welcome.

This year, the SDH Initiative began hosting themed discussions between SDHI Scholars on an approximately monthly basis, during the SRIP time slot of Tuesdays from 4:00pm-5:30pm. These scholarly discussions, each with a theme relevant to social determinants of health research, were meant to supplement typical SDHI Scholar social events that could not be held during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though initially developed for SDHI Scholars, these themed discussions have expanded to welcome general members of the SDH Initiative who wish to be involved.
