C-GEO 2025 Advanced Summer Institute
Norway: Climate Impacts and Cultural Landscapes
July 6 - 20, 2025
Participants of this advanced institute will begin their adventure in Svolvær and Lofoten, with a visit to the Lofotr Viking Museum to experience the Viking Age and enjoy an authentic Viking feast. Other experiences will include a Sea Eagle Safari and a visit to Trollfjorden, a 1.2 mile-long fjord known for its natural beauty and wildlife; a guided mountain hike up to Djevelporten (or Devil's Gate); sailing across the Arctic Circle to Trondheim, passing myriad small islands, skerries and the special mountain Torghatten along the way. They will journey to Oslo and Flam and enjoy a rail journey ‘Over the Roof of Norway’ to the mountain station of Myrdal and take the Flamsbana Corkscrew Railway one of the world’s steepest railways, which spirals it way down to Flam, and spend their final day exploring the city of Bergen.
Please Note This Important Information before Applying:
- Only apply if you currently possess a valid passport that is less than 10 years old and does not expire before January 21, 2026.
- Accommodations are shared - two people per room.
- C-GEO cannot guarantee accommodation for dietary restrictions during trip.
- This institute includes a lot of walking and some hiking at higher elevations.
- A mix of transportation will be used. Sometimes you will have full days and nights of transportation, including by sea and by train.
- Participants will be required to travel to the institute with the group from Portland to Norway --no individual deviations permitted.
Eligibility to Apply?
- Oregon preK-12 teachers who have successfully completed a C-GEO multi-day institute or Oregon Pre-Service Teachers
- Availability to attend mandatory orientations on 5/3/2025 and 6/11/2025
- Currently possess valid passport less than 10 years old that expires after January 21, 2026
