Dr. Elise Granek received her PhD in Zoology/Marine Ecology from Oregon State University in 2006 and her MESc in Forest Ecology and Conservation Biology from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Prior to pursuing her PhD, Dr. Granek worked for the Smithsonian's Monitoring and Assessment of Biodiversity Program; served as the Staff Ecologist for the UNEP and World Bank project on Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Comoros Islands; and served as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in the Comoros Islands and Benin. Dr. Granek runs the Applied Coastal Ecology Lab at PSU in which research spans examining the effects of emerging contaminants on marine ecosystems and species, the ecological role of mangroves in both native and introduced ranges, to understanding human attitudes, perceptions, and knowledge about coastal management, fisheries, and contaminants. 

Dr. Granek serves on the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) to Oregon's Ocean Policy Advisory Council and on the Steering Committee of Oregon's Coastal and Ocean Information Network (OCOIN), as well as on the Editorial Board of Limnology and Oceanography Letters. Dr. Granek teaches courses on coastal ecology, marine and environmental management, science communication, and environmental contaminants in the Department of Environmental Science & Management.
