Masao grew up in Wai’anae, Hawai’i. He started his journey in Oregon in 2012 as a first generation college student at Western Oregon University. During his time at WOU, he worked as a Zumba fitness instructor in the Peter Courtney Health and Wellness Center, was a member of the all-male A Capella group 15 Miles West, and was involved with the Hawai’i Club on campus. After five years at WOU, he graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Communication Studies with a minor in dance.
