This scholarship, established by a community member in 1960, supports students intending to study abroad for a speciality in Middle East Studies.

Criteria

You must meet the following requirements:

  • Full-time PSU student
  • Enrolled and making satisfactory progress in Arabic, Persian or Hebrew
  • Intention to study for a speciality in Middle East Studies

  • Completed Middle East Studies Center Scholarship Application
  • 350-word statement on how this scholarship will help you in reaching your academic, career and/or personal goals
  • Unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Letter of recommendation from language instructor or area studies or academic advisor

Gary and Patricia Leiser Scholarship in Middle Eastern Languages

This scholarship, established by PSU alumni, supports students with a serious interest in Middle East Studies and languages.

You must meet the following requirements:

  • Full-time PSU student
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Enrolled in Arabic, Persian or Turkish language
  • Demonstrated serious interest in the Middle East by taking courses related to the region from any discipline
  • 3.25 overall GPA

This scholarship, named after former Middle East Studies Center Director John Damis, supports International Studies and Political Science majors who have a serious interest in Middle East Studies.
