CrowdStrike at Portland State University

CrowdStrike in red lettering with a red falcon graphic swooping down toward it

OIT has felt an increasing need to review an array of anti-malware offerings in an effort to modernize and improve our endpoint security posture. The result of this effort is that we have selected CrowdStrike Falcon Enterprise EDR to replace Trellix, formerly known as McAfee.

We plan on gradually deploying CrowdStrike to endpoints over the next two months.
CrowdStrike has been placed into Self-Service Software for all staff and faculty systems. Running this will automatically remove Trellix Endpoint Security.

During the deployment, you might see a pop-up stating that AV software is not installed, which will clear once the installation is complete. There is no user interface for CrowdStrike, but you can verify that it is installed by opening the Windows Security - Virus & threat protection settings pane (on Windows) or by checking for Falcon.app in the Applications folder (on macOS). On Windows systems, following the installation both CrowdStrike and Trellix will show as being installed. After a system reboot Trellix will be cleared and only CrowdStrike will show as installed.
