CLAS Grad Student Accolades: Community Engagement & Career Progression for 2023

  1. Natalie Cholula (Sociology Ph.D.) is a member of the Evicted in Oregon research team. Natalie will present “Fight, Flight, or Freeze: Tenants' Responses and Needs after Receiving an Eviction Notice" as part of the Sociology Spring Lecture Series (details TBA.)
  2. Jenna DePasquale (Sociology Ph.D.) was invited to teach "Social Problems and Sex, Relationships & Marriage" at Washington State University-Vancouver.
  3. Dale Frakes (Systems Science Ph.D.) was hired as a research faculty member at the Naval Postgraduate School. 
  4. Alexis Guizar-Diaz (Sociology Ph.D.) started a new role as the legislative field manager for Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste, Oregon's largest farmworker union and Latinx advocacy organization. Alexis also served as a panelist for Eastern Washington University's Ronald E. McNair Summer Research Internship Program.
  5. Nakeshia Knight Coyle (Sociology Ph.D.) successfully defended her dissertation, "The Experiences of Black Women Direct Care Workers in Long-Term Care."
  6. Nate Parsons (Sociology Ph.D.) started a new role as Multnomah County’s senior geospatial epidemiologist.
  7. Jennifer Saucedo (Psychology Ph.D.) participated in the 2023 Proctor & Gamble I-O Psychology Business Challenge in October 2023.
  8. Camila Swift (Sociology Ph.D.) was hired as a graduate research assistant for PSU’s Diverse Inclusive Collaborative Educators PLUSS program with Profs. Julie Esparza Brown, Sheldon Loman, and Amanda Sanford.
  9. Marta Szabatin (Environmental Management MEM), who worked as an environmental compliance program manager at OHSU since 2019, was promoted to environmental compliance officer in October 2023. Marta writes that it is a pleasure to contribute to the safe and sustainable operations of OHSU’s campuses and promote environmental stewardship at Oregon's largest healthcare provider.
  10. Laura Yang (Psychology Ph.D.) was selected to be part of PSU's Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group leadership team, housed under the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusion.
