Congratulations to the MURP students who presented their MURP Workshop projects last Monday! 

 

The MURP Workshop gives graduate MURP students an opportunity to gain real world experience by “conceiving, planning, and implementing a community-based planning project in close consultation with a committed client/partner.” Learn more about the multi-term course here.

162 Bike and Pedestrian Projects…Now What?—Focuses on developing a prioritization framework and implementation plan for the City of Hillsboro’s 2022 Transportation System Plan bicycle and pedestrian project list. Conducted by Stride Shift Planning Collective (Chris Corral, Lisa Ferguson, Maddy Poehlein, Shane Seaman, Sierra Willems, and Ciara Williams) for the City of Hillsboro.

Future Sandy—Aims to identify and design multimodal improvements for Sandy Boulevard and develop an outreach campaign to build support for these changes. Conducted by Strategic Minds (Anchal Cheruvari, Katelyn Dendas, Afroza Hossain Misty, Holly Querin, and Symeon Walker) for BikeLoudPDX.

Gathering Gardens—Supports APANO’s long-term goal of establishing up to five community gardens across Portland to provide culturally relevant produce options and mitigate food insecurities for BIPOC, immigrant, and refugee communities. Conducted by Agate Planning Associates (Alan De Anda-Hall, Gail Chastain, Elias Peters, Aswatha Raghunathasami, and Tyler Smith) for APANO.

Pendarvis Farm Amphitheater: A Roadmap to Conservation Development—Analyzes the economic impact of a potential outdoor amphitheater on Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, OR, and recommended mitigation measures to ensure the venue becomes an amenity-rich community asset. Conducted by Cadence Planning (Summer Cook, Miguel Gelin Ferreira, Max del Hierro, Wyatt Schaffner, Dawn Walter, Maia Wiseman) for Pickathon Experiential Music Festival & Pendarvis Farm.

A Stronger Square: Climate Resiliency for Pioneer Courthouse Square—Assesses the impacts that climate change will have on Pioneer Courthouse Square over the next twenty years and what initiatives should be pursued to mitigate those impacts. Conducted by MHA Planning (Meredith Herbst, Hannah Johnston, Anna Reusink, Matthew Robinson, and Aarin Young) for Pioneer Courthouse Square Incorporated.

Office to Residential Conversions: A Housing Crisis Response—Explores pathways to feasibility for office to residential conversion, contrasted against alternative housing production strategies for the Lloyd neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. Conducted by Revive Planning (Mackenzie Aamodt, Carson Fehner, Sam Gallagher, Kara Hamilton, Daisy Schonder, and Etosha Terryll) for Lloyd EcoDistrict.
