  1. Heejun Chang, geography faculty, was named to the Reuters Hot List of the world’s top climate scientists. 
  2. Óscar Fernández, university studies, commissioned an orchestral composition for full orchestra from Venezuelan-Spanish composer and Portland’s Metropolitan Youth Orchestras (MYS) conductor Giancarlo Castro D’Addona. The commission, “Portland Beauty,” is supported by University Studies’ then-organized Race and Social Justice Dialogues (2017-2020) and a grant from Bringing Theory to Practice. There will be a virtual performance on May 29 at 7 p.m. on the MYS YouTube channel. The MYS Season Finale Concert is free on YouTube but requires registration to receive a private concert link.
  3. Catherine McNeur, history faculty, was quoted in “A History of New York, Told Through Its Trash” in the New Yorker.
  4. Ken Ruoff, history faculty and Center for Japanese Studies director, participated in an interview about his new book, “Japan’s Imperial House in the Postwar Era, 1945-2019,” which is available on the New Books Network.
