PSU community resources for extreme heat

With temperatures expected to reach dangerously high levels this weekend, we wanted to share the following information for students and employees who may need assistance in staying cool and safe.

On-campus cooling stations
All regularly occupied buildings on campus will have air conditioning running 24/7 starting Friday, June 25, and until temperatures drop below 100 degrees to ensure the ability to maintain comfortable conditions indoors.

PSU students and employees will have ID access to public spaces in Cramer Hall, Fariborz Maseeh Hall and Karl Miller Center from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Additional measures are in place for on-campus residents, who will have access to the second floor of the Broadway Building as a designated cooling station.

University Place Hotel special rates and cooling station
Air conditioned rooms at University Place Hotel are available for rent by PSU community members at a special base room rate of $89 per night (with PSU ID) Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights. The hotel will also offer a cooling station for up to 50 members of the PSU community (with PSU ID) available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. For additional information, please contact the hotel at 503-221-0140 or uplace@pdx.edu.

Other resources
For more information about local resources for extreme heat including public cooling centers throughout the region, tips on caring for pets in the heat, and how to spot signs of heat-related illnesses, visit this Public Alerts site for the Portland Metro that will be updated as needed throughout the weekend.

We encourage everyone to take extra care, looking out for each other and for your neighbors during what promises to be a historic heat wave.

Sincerely,

PSU Incident Management Team
