Transfer Advising Guides by PSU Major

Transfer Advising Guides provide a succinct overview of credit requirements and recommended transfer degree paths for every undergraduate major at PSU. 

We recommend using these guides as a starting place for understanding what is required for different majors and planning your community college courses in advance of transferring. Students should not rely on these transfer guides for planning general education courses or degree requirements outside of the specific major.

The Transfer Advising Guides are a tool to use to begin planning your transfer to PSU, they are not intended to replace individual one-on-one academic advising to ensure that you stay on track to completion of your degree, but rather to complement this personal support.

Major Transfer Maps

Major Transfer Maps (MTMs) are statewide agreements that create streamlined and guaranteed paths for students transferring from an Oregon community college to an Oregon university, based on the chosen major field. MTMs specify clear course-taking paths necessary for on-track progress towards a specific major/bachelor’s degree.

General Education Information 

Portland State offers two general education options. Students complete these courses at PSU, and they will vary depending on how many credits are transferred towards the degree.

1. University Honors College
2. University Studies

Race and Ethnic Studies Requirement (RESR):

 PSU requires that all students take one or two Race and Ethnic Studies Requirement (RESR) courses as part of a Bachelor's Degree. Students entering PSU with fewer than 90 credits will need two RESR courses. Students entering with 90 credits or more will need one RESR course.

Transfer students may meet the RESR with transfer credits.
