Research Interests

Ozcan Tunalilar, PhD is an assistant professor in the Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning and at the Institute on Aging at Portland State University. His research examines the role of organizational, contextual, and socioeconomic factors that contribute to the reproduction of inequalities in access to high-quality long-term care and in residents’ experiences in the long-term care system.

His ongoing projects span four interrelated areas: evaluating state programs that provide services to older adults and people with physical disabilities, the spatial inequalities that unfold as newer cohorts of older adults move into residential long-term care, the role of family in navigating long-term care, and the effect of organizational characteristics of residential long-term care facilities on resident well-being.
