Alan DeLaTorre has a doctorate in urban studies from Portland State University and is a self-described “urban gerontologist” based on his experiences advancing urban policy, city planning, and age-friendly communities.

Alan has been involved in Portland’s age-friendly initiative since 2006, first as a student (2006-2009) and later as faculty at PSU’s Institute on Aging (2010-2019); from 2019-2023, he worked at the City of Portland’s Bureau of Planning and Sustainability on the Comprehensive and Strategic Planning team where he advanced projects and policies related to aging, disability, and public health.

Dr. DeLaTorre serves as adjunct faculty in the College of Urban and Public Affairs where he teaches courses in the Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning and in the gerontology program through the Institute on Aging. He collaborates with local and state government officials and community partners to make Portland and Multnomah County more age friendly.
