Retreat FAQ
How much does the retreat cost?
SALP will cover the cost of transportation from PSU to Camp Magruder and back, food, and lodging. There is no cost for you to attend this retreat, but cancellation after August 20 or a no-show will result in an $80 fee that will be added to your student account to cover costs.
Accommodations
Accommodation requests can be submitted in the registration form, and you can email Aimee Shattuck at shattuck@pdx.edu with additional questions.
How should I prepare for the retreat?
Please pack the following items:
- Clothing for two days (the coast can be cold, please check weather conditions and prepare accordingly)
- Sturdy walking shoes in case you want to explore the grounds or go to the beach
- Shoes for wearing in the communal showers
- Bed sheet and blanket (or sleeping bag), and pillow
- Toiletries including toothbrush/paste, sunscreen, insect repellent, deodorant, menstrual products, shampoo/conditioner, eyeglass or contact cases
- Towel, maybe an extra for the beach
- Water bottle
- Flashlight
- Any medicines you need
- Snacks, if you want anything specific beyond what SALP will provide (please, no nuts due to allergies)
- Musical instrument for the campfire, if you are so inclined
- A book or journal for personal downtime (to be stored in cabins during retreat activities).
Conduct
We strive to create a welcoming and positive environment for all.
All students will go through a review process. Students who have been found responsible for a past conduct violation may be uninvited from this event depending on the nature of the violation.
No alcohol, smoking, or drugs are allowed. Students who do not meet these expectations will be asked to leave and referred to the PSU Conduct Office.
On the day of the retreat
We will be providing all transportation. For safety and liability, students will not be permitted to drive their personal vehicles. We will be meeting in the SALP Clubhouse on the mezzanine level of SMSU on Tuesday, September 19th starting at 7:15am. If you are not here by 8am, we will be leaving on buses without you.
Overnight
Sleeping arrangements are in a one-room cabin that has heating and bunk beds. The beds just have an uncovered mattress. You will have to provide your own sheet and blanket (or sleeping bag) and pillow. Bathrooms and showers are in a separate, nearby building.
