Federal Work Study for Employers

Federal Work Study (FWS) provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay for education expenses while also gaining impactful professional experience. Students must remain enrolled at least half time to maintain eligibility. Both on and off campus jobs are available.

On Campus Employers

  • Students must have an EPAF approved by Financial Aid before they can start work.
  • Pay periods end on the 15th of each month.
  • An updated job description must be submitted to Financial Aid each year.
  • All jobs should be posted on Handshake.
  • Federal funds typically cover 90% of eligible student’s earned wages.

Off Campus Employers

  • Non-profit, government, and community organizations can become official FWS partners with Portland State University.
  • Federal funds typically cover 75% of students’ earned wages.
  • Students can verify their FWS eligibility before a position is offered.
