We are happy to announce that Katia Duncan has been hired as an Assistant Professor of Practice, Fixed Term in the MSW Program in the School of Social Work at Portland State University beginning September 16, 2022.

Katia Duncan, MSW, LCSW is a human first, therapist second, and social worker always. After moving to Portland last year from Denver, she opened a private practice, Untold Story, where she offers individual therapy, clinical supervision, and training/consultation. She approaches most of these from a postmodern, feminist metatheortical lens, focusing on approaches to therapeutic work with an emphasis on cultural responsivity. Prior to private practice, she worked in community mental health and as a school social worker after getting her MSW in 2014 at the University of Denver.

Regardless of the setting, she strives to embody the soul of social work – disruption and advocacy. She would describe herself as a rebel, who is most proud of the parts of her that dare to think differently and challenge the norm. After being adjunct faculty in the 2021-2022 school year, she is so excited to continue to be part of the PSU community and to partner with students this coming school year.

Katia enjoys baking, coffee, hip hop, reality tv, and going to art museums. She will do anything to avoid doing dishes and will do everything to convince her dog to cuddle with her. She lives with her partner and is a mother to the coolest (not a biased opinion at all) toddler, who provides ample opportunity to apply her social work skills in her daily life.

Please join me in also welcoming Katia Duncan to her new role in the School of Social Work!
