Please extend a warm welcome to Gabriela Santoyo Gutierrez! Gabriela will be serving as the MSW Students of Color Collective (SOCC) Liaison for the 2022-2023 Academic Year. This is an inaugural Macro Field Placement, and we are grateful to SOCC leaders Consuelo Nerio, Vanessa Sanchez Mexicano, Ari Vazquez, and Paolo Pereira for their hard work to develop this placement. Gabriela will be supervised by Dean Jose Coll and Marina Barcelo.

Please learn more about Gabriela below.

Gabriela is in her final year of the MSW program and is excited to support the commitment to inclusion and equity at the School of Social Work. She will provide leadership to the Students of Color Collective (SOCC), serve as member of the Equity, Partnership & Inclusion Council (EPIC), support SSW strategic planning efforts, and participate in the hiring process for the new Student Inclusion Coordinator. Gabriela’s educational background is in Sociology and Ethnic studies which have shaped her passion for policy change in advocating for anti-racism, reproductive justice, and immigrant and refugee liberation. She believes in leading with building relationships, critical reflection, and trauma-informed care.

In her free time, Gabriela loves listening and dancing to music, playing volleyball, and spending time with her family, friends, and two chonky corgis. If you would like to start a conversation with Gabriela, she is always happy to talk about ANY food dishes, Bad Bunny, and navigating higher education as a first-generation college student.
