We are happy to announce that Bethany Wallace has been hired as fixed-term Field Specialist in the School of Social Work at Portland State University beginning July 1, 2023.

Bethany is a Licensed Clinical Social worker who received her MSW from the University of Michigan in 2010, with a focus on children, youth and families. Over the past 12.5 years, Bethany has worked at Trillium Family Services, Oregon’s largest children’s mental health non-profit, where she is currently the Director of Quality Improvement. During her time at Trillium, Bethany has engaged in direct clinical practice, program management, clinical supervision and training, policy development, and implementation of agency wide initiatives including: Trauma Informed Care, Zero Suicide, and Feedback Informed Treatment.

Additionally, Bethany has dedicated her time to the training, supervision, and education of colleagues, community members, and students. From developing and leading trainings on clinical best practices to offering clinical and intern supervision, Bethany is passionate about sharing research driven techniques with the current and future workforce. This passion ultimately led her to becoming an adjunct instructor with the School of Social Work, where she has taught field seminar and been a faculty liaison for the past 4 years.

Bethany is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) at the University of Kentucky on-line, in order to improve the field of social work by addressing gaps between research, education, and practice. Specifically, Bethany is interested in improving the training and competence of social workers interacting with suicidal youth, particularly those that identify as LGBTQIA2S+ and/or gender diverse.

Bethany lives in Salem Oregon with her husband, two sons aged 7 and 10, and their rescue dog Waffles. Bethany and her family enjoy being active and spending time outside.

Please join me in welcoming Bethany Wallace to the School of Social Work in this new role!
