PSU Russian Flagship Alumni

Honors and Awards: Psi Chi Honor’s Society, CLS participant 2018 (Tbilisi, Georgia)

What do you plan to do with your fluency in Russian? I currently work in mental health in the Portland metro area, and with our large Russian-speaking population, I have witnessed firsthand the need for service providers with nuanced cross-cultural understanding and advanced linguistic skills within this field. While I’m very interested in future opportunities for working in Russian-speaking countries and serving my country, there’s also a lot of need right here in my local community at present.

What attracted you to the PSU Russian Flagship? The quality and intensity of the program, as well as the successes of its alumni.

What’s the best aspect of being in the PSU Russian Flagship? The small class sizes, dedication of the teachers, and unique supports such as weekly tutoring and engaging cultural events. Flagship is its own microcosm at PSU and it’s a pretty special little family to be a part of. It’s an inspiring experience to come together with students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines and be united in the language learning process.

Why is fluency in Russian important to you? Simply put, I plan on using it for the rest of my life, both personally
