Veterans Certification Current Students

All students using VA Educational Benefits must certify their courses every term with the Veterans Certification Office. Current students should fill out the Electronic Certification Form through their myPSU account.

The Veterans Certification Office will check the degree applicability of your registration and certify all eligible courses for payment by the Federal VA. Please note that the Federal VA will not pay for any courses that are not directly applicable to your declared program objective.

Reporting changes in your enrollment

Any changes to your schedule (this includes both adding and dropping of courses) must be reported to the Veterans Certification Office immediately as these changes may have a direct effect of benefits paid to you or to the University. Immediate notification of these changes can prevent overpayments and thus prevent future problems with the VA.

Monthly verification of enrollment required for some programs:

As of January 2022 student veterans receiving CH 33 Post 9/11 benefits must verify monthly enrollment.  You may verify by text, email, or phone. Directions for all options can be found on the VA Verification page.

If you are a student veteran receiving benefits under Chapters 30 and 1606, you are required to complete a monthly verification of enrollment with the VA before payments will be released to your account. The verification of enrollment must be done at the end of each month and may be done online at: Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) or by calling the following toll-free number: 1.800.827.1000.

Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018

In compliance with the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018, Portland State University does not impose any penalties in the form of late fees, holds, requirements that students borrow additional funds, or restrict access to college resources for covered individuals using Chapter 31 Veterans Readiness & Employment, or Chapter 33 Post-9/11 benefits following the certification of enrollment when payment is late due to delayed disbursement by the VA. Covered individuals must provide the Veterans Certification Office with a certificate of eligibility for entitlement to educational assistance under Chapter 31 or Chapter 33 benefits and request certification each term to ensure the student account properly reflects expected receipt of VA funds.
