Yasin Tunç is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Department of Curriculum and Instruction. He received his PhD in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Curriculum Theory and Comparative and International education (minor), and his MSci. in the Department of Educational Sciences at Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkey). Dr. Tunç’s teaching background is in English Language Teaching and World Language Teaching. He taught English as a World (‘foreign’) Language in Turkey at secondary and post-secondary levels, and has taught Turkish as a World Language in the US (K6-16). Yasin currently teaches in the MA/MS Program and Graduate Teaching Education Program (GTEP) in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and leads secondary cohort in GTEP.
Dr. Tunç’s scholarship is interdisciplinary, working at the intersections of cultural studies, history and sociology of childhood (childhood studies), curriculum theories, comparative and international education, and world language teacher education. Informed by critical and post- structural theories in education, his work takes an historical and comparative approach to understanding how modern subject(ivity)s (modern child, abled/disabled bodies, ab/normalities, the “poor” etc.) are “made up” at the intersections of institutional, epistemic (discursive), curricular/educational practices. This line of work traces the contingency and historicity of these form(ation)s so as to open them up for new imaginations and possibilities.
