William Fish

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Dr. Bill Fish has conducted water-quality research and education for over 35 years. His interests include the chemistry of toxic metals and their interaction in surface waters, soils, sediments and groundwater. He has also conducted research modeling persistent hydrophobic pollutants and the use of these models in risk assessments. Other areas of research have included stormwater management and advanced wastewater treatment, particularly innovative biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal from wastewater. He has received research funding from the National Science Foundation, the US EPA, the US Department of Energy, the Oregon Department of Agriculture, the City of Portland and other organizations. He has taught courses on the fate and transport of toxic materials, water and wastewater treatment, water chemistry modeling, environmental cleanup, and environmental physics. He has served on a number of technical advisory boards including for the American Chemical Society, the US DOE, the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. He received a PhD in Civil Engineering from MIT in 1984 and a BSEnvEng from the University of Florida in 1979.
