PSU History
Marilyn worked at Portland State University since 2008. She started as a student worker with College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Indigenous Nations Studies, and in 2012 she worked at the Graduate School of Education (College of Education), then in 2016 moved to School of Social Work.
Experience
Marilyn Shawe is a graduate of Portland State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design and is now working towards her graduate degree. Marilyn worked with The Center for Improvement of Child and Family Services at Portland State University under the Self Sufficiency program for over 2 years. She has also worked with many non-profit organizations and programs: Oregon Health Sciences University, American Indian Teacher’s Program (co-sponsored by PSU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Graduate School of Education), Oregon Department of Education’s grant for Culturally Responsive Elementary Mathematics, Native American Rehabilitation Association’s Healing Feather program, Healthy Native Youth and more.

Her interest and commitment is to continue her life-long learning with diverse communities and to advocate for equality, social justice and for the opportunity for all people to thrive to have a safe and rewarding life. Marilyn is a designer, and a loving mother and wife. She spends her free time outdoors with her family and dog.
