Born in Brazil, Margaret immigrated to the U.S. with her family as a child. She is Portuguese-speaking and later learned Spanish. Her passion includes working with immigrant clients and helping them navigate the complexities of culture, inspiring empowerment through voice and action, as well as coping with the effects of racism and xenophobia, gender-based violence against LGBTQ+ community and other traumas.

Margaret joined PSU, SHAC Counseling services in early 2022, where she serves as a part-time therapist assisting students experiencing a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, loss, life and cultural adjustment, etc. Margaret has a strong background training in trauma for 20+ years.

Margaret earned her MSW (Master’s in Social Work) at the University of Michigan in 1999 and has been practicing as a therapist since. She is excited to have returned to Portland Oregon after a very long detour but fun adventure.

When not serving PSU community at Counseling Services, Margaret can be found enjoying life by traveling, reading, creating and nourishing her garden, going to music shows, and enjoying her friends and family.
