Craig L. Carr taught contemporary political philosophy and the history of political ideas. His many books and numerous scholarly articles address topics in social justice theory, liberal theories of the state, liberalism and republicanism, freedom and toleration, and democratic theory. His most recent books include: Political Freedom: Pluralism, Unity, and the Civil Order (2021); Law, Cultural Diversity, and Criminal Defense (with Lisa Johnson) (2019); and Liberalism and Pluralism: The Politics of E pluribus unum (2010). Upon retiring in 2012 he received the Dean’s Distinguished Career Award for exceptional scholarship.
