Originally from Sublimity, Oregon – Chris Hanel (he/him) has been with PSU since 2000, where he serves as a physician for the Center for Student Health & Counseling (SHAC). He attends to students in the hopes to keep them healthy enough to attend to their goals of being successful here at PSU.
Prior to PSU, he worked in heart research at the Portland, VA. Growing up, he worked on farms starting at age 7, then logging throughout high school, then working at a beverage factory for summers during University, then various odd jobs until the aforementioned job at the VA.
Chris has a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Portland. He then went on to earn a medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University, where he also served his Residency in Family Practice.
In his free time, you can find Chris riding, or racing, or crashing his various bicycles. He enjoys spending time with his wonderful partner, Shelley, and his 2 daughters, Kylee and Caelyn, and their 3 chickens, 1 dog, 1 rat, 1 bearded dragon, 1 uromastyx (look it up), many fish, and various fostered animals that his youngest sneaks back home from the humane society. He also enjoys movies, books, TV series, and just a good story in general.
