Carrie Gilbert


Biography:

Carrie's 25+ year career has touched upon various facets of technical communication practice, including interaction design, service design, process optimization, and instructional design. After two decades working for companies from start-ups to blue-chip stalwarts, she now manages her own consultancy. She helps her clients navigate challenges such as customer success initiatives, intranet redesigns, and training programs. Carrie also has an active visual arts practice and frequently exhibits in the Portland area.

As an instructor in the Technical and Professional Writing Program at PSU, Carrie encourages students to explore the role of visual language, preparing students for a technical communication landscape that increasingly extends beyond the written word. She holds an MS in Technical Communication with an emphasis in Human-Computer Interaction from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a BA in Digital Art from San Jose State University.

Carrie teaches Document Design, Design Tools, and UX Design.
