Bethany first arrived at Portland State in September 2019 as an Adjunct Instructor for SW 511.

She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 13 years of experience. During her 12 years at Trillium Family Services, a children’s mental health non-profit, she engaged with multi-disciplinary teams, informed policies, developed and implemented clinical trainings, and led evidence-based initiatives. She has also dedicated her career to supervising, training, and educating colleagues, board-registered associates, and students. Bethany's areas of expertise include clinical documentation, suicide prevention and management, trauma-informed practices, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Bethany is committed to promoting research-based practices and developing competent and justice-oriented social workers to serve our communities. As a Practicum Specialist and a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) student, Bethany is dedicated to integrating social work theory with practice to promote social justice.

Bethany is dedicated to youth suicide prevention and promoting health equity, particularly among LGBTQIA2S+ and other marginalized youth. Bethany actively serves on various committees and boards that address these critical issues. Additionally, Bethany enjoys spending quality time with her children, dog, and partner, including participating in school and sports activities, visiting the park, and traveling together. To maintain her well-being, Bethany regularly exercises, listens to audiobooks (usually thrillers), and enjoys socializing with friends and family.
