Veronica Brown is a senior at Portland State University located in downtown Portland, Oregon, studying Community Development. Having lived in the greater Portland area for her entire life and not having had the chance to travel or adventure away from home, Veronica wanted to move away from the city after completing her Bachelor's degree but loved Oregon and wanted to stay somewhere within its borders. After attending the jointly taught Urban-Rural Ambassadors class at Portland State University and Eastern Oregon University, Veronica decided that she wanted to move to a more rural area, where the population was smaller than Portland's and she could create a sense of community. Through the connections and knowledge obtained through the Urban-Rural Ambassadors class, Veronica was matched with a mentor in the city of John Day, Oregon with City Manager, Nicholas Green. While working with the city of John Day, Veronica will gain many skills in the planning field that will help in her future career in planning. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Community Development in summer 2021, Veronica will start work with Josephine County, located in Grants Pass, Oregon, as an assistant planner.
