Angela M. Coventry is Professor of Philosophy at Portland State University. She received an undergraduate degree with First-Class Honors in Philosophy from the University of Tasmania in 1997 and a PhD in Philosophy from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004. Prior to coming to teach at PSU in 2004, she taught at the University of Arizona. Her major area of research includes Early Modern Philosophy (17th and 18th Century Continental and British). She is the author of two books: Hume’s Theory of Causation: A Quasi-Realist Interpretation (Bloomsbury 2006) and Hume: A Guide for the Perplexed (Bloomsbury 2007, translated into Portuguese 2009, second edition 2012). She has co-edited David Hume: Morals, Politics and Society, with Andrew Valls (Yale University Press, 2018), The Humean Mind, with Alex Sager (Routledge 2019) and co-wrote The Historical Dictionary of Hume’s Philosophy, with Kenneth Merrill (Rowman and Littlefield, 2018). In addition, she has published several articles and book reviews in journals such as Hume Studies, Locke Studies, Mind, Ratio, The European Legacy, Logical Analysis and History of Philosophy, The Journal of the History of Philosophy and History of Philosophy Quarterly. Most recently in the summer of 2022 Angela co-hosted a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for College and University Professors at PSU titled David Hume in the Twenty-First Century: Perpetuating the Enlightenmenthttps://nehinstitutehume21.wm.edu/. In 2023, Angela published an edition of Hume's Treatise of Human Nature for Broadview Press.  

Angela has also served as the Vice President and Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Hume Society, as co-editor of the journal Hume Studies and as the category editor for "David Hume" at PhilPapers: http://philpapers.org/browse/david-hume/.
