Contractors, consultants, trade partners, Portland State staff and OHSU staff gathered on Tuesday for the Viking Pavilion’s steel topping out ceremony. Topping out is an important building milestone marked by the last beam being placed on top of a structure during its construction.

Everyone involved with the Viking Pavilion project was invited to sign a beam that will be used in the a new building.

“A lot of people have worked hard to make this project successful. We wanted to take this opportunity to say how much we appreciate their effort,” said PSU Project Manager Kate Vance.

The Viking Pavilion is scheduled to open on time for events in April 2018.

The renovation is fully funded through state bonds, private donors, OHSU and student fees. Funding does not come from general operating funds or tuition dollars. The design of the new $50 million facility was created by Portland's Woofter Architecture and Sink Combs Dethlefs Architects. Fortis Construction is the general contractor.
